Corvus Belli Updates Infinity Base Size Rules: First World Problems

Today Corvus Belli released guidelines today on what the new base sizes for forthcoming and existing models will be. As expected certain figures in the Infinity community had a nervous break(melt)down over the news.

In case you'd not read the post on the official Infinity forums, here it is:

-Ghost-Servant miniatures (like Palbots): 25mm Base

-"Human" miniatures (the standard ones): 25mm Base

-Basic Remotes (like Yaokong or Dronbots): 40mm Base

-Special Remotes: Changes to 55mm Base
Yaoxie
Yáopú Pangguling
Every motorbike (Kum, Pentesilea, Aragotos, Asuka Kisaragi)
Traktor Mul
Mulebots
Armbots: Bulleteer
Armbots: Peacemaker
Kameel
Salyut Zonds
Tsyklon Sputnik
Lunokhod Sputnik
Probots

***Obsidon Medchanoid keeps their 40mm base***

-Big "Human" miniatures (like Ayax or Tarik): 40mm Base

-TAG: keeps their 40mm Base:
Geckos
Sphinx

-TAG: Everyone (except the mentioned before) change to 55mm base.

What was sorta lost in translation, and required clarification a little later (with just a hint of unstandable irritation) was that these changes will not be enforced and your current base size is fine. However all future models will ship on the revised base size as per the list above.

Dummy-spitting, toy throwing, and teeth-gnashing however occurred regardless.

As per a previous post I made, I think is this excellent news and to be honest I'd not be too bothered if it was enforced retrospectively. At the very least I'd be happy to see some kind of addition to this, that insists some kind of proxy base be obtained by the player in the case of disputes over template hits etc - Infinity needs a little more consistency in some of the rules and base size for me is such a hideous spot on the butt of the this game, I'd not shed a tear if all those TAGs and bikes needed bigger bases!

  1. I noted somewhere previously that the Geckos and Anacondas having feet which overhung a 40mm while not having extensions, surmising that CB had to have been planning this 55mm changeover since at least early last year when they were still working on those. After all that planning, to have their clarification end up like this seems a little disappointing.

I'm a little surprise that they put the 'assault' and 'support' Remotes on the 55mm list. They seemed alright on 40mm, despite the minor base extensions. But I was really hoping they'd save the 55mm to surprise us all with super-sized Heavy Remotes.

    1. Yeah they've not made a good job of this announcement/change in terms of how it's been rolled out. They've still not (I don't think...) answered the outstanding issues of the scenic infantry bases (Cateran, Zoaves etc) or the lack of a base on their Haqq TAG.

Must admit though I'd be quite happy transferring my Rebots to 55mm bases, and Penth' too as she barely fits the 40mm one.

It's interesting what you bring up there about saving the 55m bases for something we don't have yet in the remote category. This idea of giving their designers a larger canvas... does that mean even more dynamically posed TAGs or that GW-style scale creep?

    2. I do think we're going to eventually see larger models than their usual counterparts coming down the line as unit designs begin to stretch their legs on the larger base areas. I think the Kum Bikers were a decent example of how a design can be rehashed to better fill out a 55mm base.

    3. I'd love to see some more walking tanks like the Mag Guard. Maybe another TAG following that style could be on the way? I can see the CA getting some more chunky models following the steroid injections the infantry have been getting recently.
