Leibster.

I got Leibster'd by Certs Tabletop yesterday - very kind of him to think of me! If you play Infinity and you don't read Certs already then you need to get that site bookmarked ASAP.

So anyway here is my response to the Leibster:

My nominated recipients of the Leibster chain are:

Remote Presence
Max Von Deadlock

So now onto the questions:

Why did you start blogging?

I've been blogging or writing on the internet for a long time - I just love talking about the stuff that interests me. Probably been doing that for about 15-16yrs in various guises. Originally I ran a pair of pretty successful music zines - Better Off Dead, succeeded by the bigger Vendetta Zine. Both covered hardcore punk and underground metal and featured mainly news and reviews of records. Vendetta eventually became so out of control I couldn't keep up with the quantity of CD's I was getting sent from the bands and labels and I folded it. It had become such a monster I had a half dozen staff in various countries like Sweden and the US helping me, and we still couldn't meet demand. I think when the job of just producing writing takes over from the enjoyment of your blogs topic, you should stop. And so I did.

If you could change one thing about the wargaming hobby, what would it be?

The thing that spoils any hobby or scene... the negative aspects of human nature that makes some people encourage division and hostility.

What is best in life?

To crush your enemies, see them driv... sorry. My serious answer is just: knowing great people.

Do you want to live forever?

No. There aren't enough hobbies out there to sate my appetite.

Fame or fortune?

Fame.

What miniatures are you most proud of having painted?

My first model I painted after getting back into the hobby about two years ago, a GW Helbrute. That thing ain't ever getting sold. Aside from that? I did a Deathwing Captain conversion about 20-odd years ago when they had the Native American thing in their fluff... I still have him.

How do you deal with burn out?

My top tip is paint some terrain. It's quick and easy and satisfying. Either that or just treat yourself to a few weeks off to watch movies, drink beer, and don't pick up a paintbrush at all.

Why is a raven like a writing desk?

Pardon?

Star Wars or Star Trek?

Star Wars. The first three films made. Original theatrical cuts.

If you could only buy from one miniature company from now on, who would it be?

Corvus Belli. Hands down. Best miniature maker in the world bar none - very few CB releases have me unimpressed or not thinking of starting that particular faction! Forge World second - whilst GW stuff seems to be getting more toy like and homogenised, FW continue to smash it with some incredible stuff.

What is your favourite takeaway?

Fish and chips. Can't get any better than that.

  1. I was waffling on whether or not to nominate Remote Presence myself, mainly just because they're not as active as they used to be. But back when I first started Infinity, they were kind of THE Infinity blog to read.

Those guys are actually based relatively close to me and I almost ended up playing with them when I first inquired online about who plays Infinity in my area before deciding to convert a couple friends and start a group at a nearby LGS. Still, they're the ones responsible for introducing Infinity to the NOVA Open (which I've taken over since). TimW still posts on TauOfWar, I think SpicyIrish plays Warmachine at Voltron's LGS, and Lost Cateran does swordplay with one of our group member's brothers and on the rare occasion that he gets injured, he might show up to play Infinity with us.

Love those guys and really appreciate all the work they did for promoting Infinity online and introducing it to this area.

    1. Yeah it's a great blog, just wish they were indeed more active. Some great posts though for painting and conversions.

It is weird how few active Infinity blogs they are out there?

    2. Levitas mentioned this in a comment on my blog but maybe it's because it can often be hard to come up with regular material for Infinity that isn't just a newsreel of either whatever's going on with CB, some event, or your own gaming/hobbying.

And much of the other topics, like tactic articles and such, are already out there. Unlike 40k or other larger games, Infinity gameplay is fairly constant and without shifting that there isn't too much to re-talk about even after an update comes through.

3rd edition should see some activity with whatever changes that brings. I figure CB will tweak the game mechanics to better accommodate their ITS scenarios, so there should be some decent balance and tactics talk to come from any shifts in people's gaming due to 3rd edition. But that'll eventually peter out again as well.

  2. Hey thanks for the nomination :)

I've neglected my blog slightly of late and this is a great kick up the backside to get posting more frequently!
